Update from Bilingual Review error Studio 2017

In Studio 2017, I exported a word file for bilingual review. I received the file back from the customer, but when I tried to 'update from bilingual review', it gives me dozends of orro messages that look like this: "Segment X - This segment was not updated because the content of segment was changed since it was exported for external review." How can I fix this issue? I googled this question, but the best I found was a reference to some add-on that no longer seems to exist for 2017, namely the SDL XLIFF Converter for MS Office.

Please advise, thanks!

  • Hi,

This is inevitable unfortunately. I have come across similar issues many times with this scenario.
I believe it is something to do with date stamps within SDLXLIFF file that get somehow recognized as newer than bilingual review docx from the customer. Especially if you keep your project on network and someone opened it, then bilingual review process may not work.
I can only offer a workaround I use.

    1. Go back to your Studio project.
    2. Run Export for Bilingual Review batch task.
    3. Open MS Word, Go to Review, Compare, Compare (not Combine).
    4. Specify this newly exported bilingual review docx as original.
    5. Specify the real review docx from the customer as revised.
    6. Click on More option and check the settings are appropriate.
    7. I would choose Word level for "Show changes at" option, New document for "Show changes in" option, also would uncheck "Comments" for "Comparison settings", etc.
    8. Run Update from Bilingual Review and supply this docx from Word Compare.
    9. Open SDLXLIFF file and cross check against the review docs from the customer to ensure the edits were imported successfully.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you,
    Naoko
