Cannot save target: "Internal error: Multiple tags with the same ID Italic have different start tag properties"

Question

Dear all, 
 This error keeps popping up whenever I try to italicise a word in the editor view of Trados 2017 and then save the file. The words in question are not italicised in the source document. The source document is a regular docx and has nothing to do with Worldserver nor did it come in a package. It was all working fine this morning and I could italicise without problems, but following an update this afternoon it has all gone awry. Is there anyway to resolve this?

 This isn't very helpful Don. This update was in Beta and being QA'd for several weeks longer than originally intended and this problem didn't come up. Nobody, apart from another user, has told anyone to roll back. So far nobody has provided me with a file to look at and I can't reproduce this error at all. That would be more helpful and then we might be able to suggest how to resolve it properly.

Hi all, Don Jacobson sent me his sdlxliff and I can now reproduce the problem. So no need to send me any more. We'll look at this and find out what's causing the problem.

I think I may have found a workaround: annoyed at constantly having to let my TM retranslate the file I had to crash out of in order to exit Studio 2017, I ran the pre-translate function before opening the file for translation. Amazingly, it not only populated the TUs I had previously translated, but I also no longer get the error message any more and can save normally. Hope it works for the rest of you too!

Would everyone experiencing this error please urgently do the following: 
 Go to your Project Settings, select File Types and use the "Reset to default" button below the list.

After doing so, please reopen the translation file and check, if the error still persists. At least in one case this has stopped the error.

 So the temporary solution will be to uinstall the CU8. 
 To do so, go to Control panel, chose Software or Programs or whatever it is called in your system and then let the system show you the installed updates. There you can uninstall CU8:

Please also note that this problem only occurs with projects that were created prior to CU8. If you are able to recreate your project and pretranslate from your TM to get back to where you were then the problem should not happen again. If this solution is good for you then it would be better than reverting to CU7.

Hi Jan Liebelt , There is something else you can try if it's practical for you. Normally the best approach to placing tags is to always take the one in the source and transfer it to the target. So don't use the QuickInserts for things like bold/italic/underline etc. The controls come from replicating the source and this way it's also a consistent approach to placing tags. But if you are adding formatting to the target that was not in the source at all, then this is what QuickInserts are for. In this case perhaps you don't have too many in your file already? If you can remove all the QuickInserted tags that were already in the sdlxliff and replace them again using CU8 then the file should be ok. I don't know how many of these you added but it's worth trying I think. Regards Paul

Have you read the threads to see why this is happening and what you can do to resolve it? In a nutshell these are your options: 
 
1. Open the source file as a new project and pretranslate from your TM 
2. Remove all the tags you added using QuickInsert and put them back using the current version 
3. Roll back to the version pre CU8, complete your open projects and then upgrade 
 
Three options and hopefully at least one of them will work for you.
