Interesting question (I don't work for SDL but have been using Studio since its beginning, and Workbench-TagEditor before that)...

When, in the past, I used 2 screens (now I have a screen big enough to not need a 2nd) I would place the Source PDF or original format document and any other reference info on the 2nd screen to refer to when I needed to, but always kept the Translation Results window above the Editor window when translating and below it when proofreading (different positions representing 2 different mindsets). I wouldn't want to have to move my eyes too far from the translation window as it would take extra time.

I do, however, sometimes put the Messages window to the right of my Studio screen when checking through if I need to see it as a longer list, to have more results displayed at once. It never causes the problem you're referring to. This shouldn't attract the cursor as it isn't editable.

I've tested out what you say happens and I can't lose the cursor to the translation results window whatever I do. Again, the TR window is not editable without clicking a further key combo to edit a TU, so therefore shouldn't draw the cursor away from the translation window.

Perhaps if you can give a little more information on your specific actions before this happens, someone more expert than I might be able to shed some light on this.  Is there anything unusual running in the background? Do you use tab-based shortcuts?

Or could this be some incompatibility between Studio and whatever you use to render your environment onto 4 screens? Is it possible that you have the TR window on the 'dominant' main screen? Just a long shot, I'm sure you know what you're doing.

If there is a hit in Fragment matches, then this displays and steals focus.
If there is a hit in Translation Results, this does not steal focus, and instead places the suggestion in the target segment, and the cursor at the beginning.

I have turned Fragment Matching to 8 characters, which in reality tends to disable it (I work from Japanese into English). (Simply deselecting the TU fragment checkbox under Fragment Matching Options for upLIFT seems to not have any effect - it still seems to stay on. I'm not sure why this happens)
However, this then shows the Concordance Search window, and this steals focus.

Basically, if there is a hit in Translation Results, this result displays in the target segment, and everything is fine.
If there is no hit in Translation Results, this the Concordance Search window is displayed saying "No matches found", and it steals focus.

I appreciate your point about the Concordance Search window not being editable, however it does steal focus. Immediately after this happening, I have tried keyboard input, however nothing is input anywhere as far as I can see.

I use AutoHotKey for a large range of tasks, and I thought this may be interfering, but I've disabled this, with no change.

I doubt that it is anything to do with the multiple monitor thing - even when the Translation Results window is undocked but on the same monitor, the problem persists. I have also replicated the problem on a laptop, with just a single screen.

I'm sure there is a simple fix to this, but it as yet escapes me...

I think this means you've only deselected the TU fragment checkbox under File>Options. That has no effect on documents in projects, as the project settings override the same settings that are made under File>Options. Here's where to change it in Project settings:

Ah, then you need to uncheck 'Perform search if the TM lookup returns no results' under File>Options here:

(That setting isn't in Project settings)

 AutoHotKey shouldn't affect the focus of the cursor.

Try those three settings changes and see if that achieves the desired functionality...

thanks so much for the explanation!

I'd had TU fragment checkbox deselected both under File>Options and in the Project Settings window, to no avail, but deselecting 'Perform search if the TM lookup returns no results' under File>Options did the trick.

I am now enjoying Tradosy goodness over 3 large monitors :) (Well, enjoying as much as I can given that I'd prefer to be outside in the NZ summer instead of working.)
