paragraphs, bookmarks, index, footnote

Hello,

maybe my request for help is too late anyway as I'm almost finished but here it comes.

I'm translating a thesis with loads of bookmarks and other formatting.

At first I just started and took all the tags given. Very late I checked the result at the preview and found that the whole document is a mess now as the bookmarks and paragraphs don't adapt to the new proportions of my translated documents.

Even more I realise that the document has made paragraphs in the middle of One Sentence! So I can't fuse them...

Now it has sometimes a half empty page, then in the middle of the page the footnote dividing line.

What can I do now in order to fix this?

Or do I have to deal with after translating with Trados?

Thank you beforehand!

Ela

  • Hi ,

ok... this is probably because I didn't do a proper clean up on that file, I just showed you how it worked in principle. If you have translated that one then you have two options for improving the final output:

    1. Fix the target file manually
    2. Tidy the source properly and then run it through your Translation Memory to generate another target

Having said this I think the first option is going to be the best one for you now as you'd probably have to do more work since your Translation Memory matches will probably be based on the segmentation from the first attempt.

Working with PDF files almost always requires care in the preparation stage to ensure that you are working with a file that is as "clean" as possible.
