Auto Suggest / Auto Translation

Dear all,

I've manually typed in target translation for over a year, (how stupid I was!)

and recently learned how to use 'My Memory' and 'Auto Suggest'.

And I also found, whenever I input the suggested results by pressing 'Ctrl+T',

there remains an 'AT (auto translation)' mark in the status tab where you can also see status info like '100%(match)', 'CM', etc.

So, my question is; will the 'AT' marks appear to project managers, too, in the return package?

Or, is there any way for them to track my use of Auto Suggest?

Of course, I'm not the one who literally takes the AT, but I just use it for reference and edit it A LOT.

But I'm worried the managers might think I'm neglecting my duties as a translator and just doing Copy and Paste.

Thank you so much in advance.

  • Hi ,

If you use AutoSuggest there is no way for anyone to see whether you have used it or not, and this includes the use of Machine Translation that has been placed through AutoSuggest. If you insert a whole translation from the Translation Memory and that result came from Machine Translation (MyMemory for example) then you will get an AT and your Project manager will see this. However, if you are post-editing this is no different to you placing it from your Translation Memory and correcting it.

But I do understand the issue and you could always use something like this to remove the AT status from your segments:

    appstore.sdl.com/.../

I think if anyone doesn't edit these segments then it'll be obvious enough so the work is still yours. It's more a question of payment and trust I think. Quite an interesting debate. There's an article here you might find interesting:
