Problem with switching on and off bold in Studio 2017.

Hi,

I am translating a text in which some segments only consist of 1 or 2 words in bold. However, the translation should consist of those same 1 or 2 words in bold followed by the translation between brackets NOT in bold. When I start typing, the translation is automatically bold, but for some strange reason I can't turn off bold for the part between brackets.

Example: source segment: Grenzwert. The translation should be: Grenzwert (Limietwaarde). However, I always get Grenzwert (Limietwaarde).

  • Hi ,

    It helps to work with tags showing and then you'd see the reason for this immediately. Try pressing Ctrl+Shift+H to display the formatting tags and then you'll be able to handle it. For a more detailed explanation review this article:

    In my opinion the best way to work is almost always using TagID mode because it's far easier to see which tag goes where... exceptions are if you need to be able to see what the tag content is of course, but in general I like TagID mode.

    As I wrote a long message here, it destroyed my 4 minutes of work "trados style" and then asked me to be a member of this "translation productivity group... 

    Why allowing "reply" to be open then. Why do you erase... 

    I mean, seriously trados problems never end... 

    I click ctrl + b and then I click ctrl +b while the same part is selected, this does only mean that I want to remove the bold font. Nothing else but that. How can trados engineers not figure this out? ALSO highlighting used to be available but now it is not. (if not with insert and bla bla. why do you make the rotation of earth so complex... 

    AAND I have the problem of extremely slow termbase with 40 terms added only. AND I wrote to the customer support and they suggested me to write to forums. I did that already... I think it is a disgrace that they dont give a rats ass about their product's performance even though I didnt do anything wrong and it is their product for which I PAID...... 

    Such a disgrace trados is turning out to be... 

    It is like a client asks me if a specific term used in a text I translated is this or that and I ask them to go use a damn dictionary. 


    THEY Lost a client for 2019 for that reason. I plan to not buy unless they show improvements in some aspects of their ecosystem in a way that mildly cares more about clients who pay..........................................!

    If not for the power and superiority of concordance search of Trados, I would never use trados as it is. I have 2-3 gb TM accumulated over 15 years and now I work with top range mac with windows 10 in bootcamp and the speed is like a crippled tortoise... I own memoq and wordfast and because of the trados dominance (not fairly based on merit), I have to use trados for many clients.

    It's a platform provided by Telligent... now apparently Verint.  Perhaps you can ask them why the forum behaves this way?

    Trados works in a consistent way for placing all tags.  It would be worth you spending a little time learning how to do this.  These resources may help you:

    Where have you written in the forums already?  I just checked and this is the only post associated with your name.  The support teams provide support for customers who pay for a support contract.  If you don't have that then you are only entitled to free licensing and installation support.  The performance with only 40 terms is more likely to be related to something interfering with the way MultiTerm works.  Certainly it's not the most performant product for all kinds of reasons but with such a small sample there is clearly something else wrong.  So why don't you raise a thread about this specific issue and we can try to help you with it?
