Hi, I'm a newcomer to SDL Trados Studio. I am curious to know if the program can convert an either a Word or an sdlxliff file to idml. I suspect that the answer is no. Could anyone please confirm this for me?

I'm a freelance translator and have been told by a client that it is possible for Trados SDL studio to convert a Word file into an IDML. I do not see how this could be possible. If it is, would someone please tell me how.

Thanking you in advance

  • As Nora mentions, if there was an IDML format at the start as source format - and it got converted by Studio to SDLXLIFF for the purpose of translation - then you can "convert SDLXLIFF to IDML" as the client claims...
If this is what your client meant, then the statement is - while technically true - simply misleading, as it's missing the fundamental first part...

And iif by the Word file is meant some kind of bilingual Word as 'replacement' for SDLXLIFF (and I don't know if this would be possible... perhaps using the SDLXLIIFF To Legacy converter?!), the same condition would apply.
