Receiving error

Hello:

I am currently running SDL Trados Studio SR1 - 14.1.6278.0 on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC.

When I create a project, as I translate segments I randomly (but consistently, every time) will receive the cryptic error message shown below, and then SDL Trados Studio stops execution completely, forcing me to close the program via Task Manager. This seems to happen only when I create a project. I have received packages with projects created by others and SDL Trados Studio seems to work fine.

Error message: No se pudo recuperar el generador de clases COM para el componente con CLSID {5A02A4FA.ACOB-4852-BC08E-0494CD3189C6} debido al siguiente error: 800700c1 no es una aplicación Win32 válida. (Excepción de HRESULT: 0x800700C1).

(Sorry about the Spanish, but I purchased my PC in Latin America and Windows is installed with Spanish GUI). The message basically says that the COM class factory for component with that CLSID could not be recovered because of exception 0x800700C1, not a Win32 application.

I looked around and apparently the problem lies in the Visual C++ MFC library. I looked in Microsoft's website, and apparently the library I have installed is the version for Windows 7. To install the new version I would have to uninstall that and install the new Visual C++ redistributable service pack.

My questions: Am I correct? Is this the solution? Or is there another way to fix this? please advise asap.

  • Hi ,

I guess you are referring to this article?

    gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge

I think I would try updating Studio and Multiterm to the latest versions first as this action may repair anything odd. The latest are these and they are free updates:

    SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - 14.1.6413.8
    SDL MultiTerm 2017 SR1 - 14.1.2471.5

If that doesn't work then go ahead with the KB advice and update Visual C++. You probably should not uninstall older versions as some programs you have running may need them. It's quite normal to see many versions installed on a computer. I just looked and I have 16 versions running on my laptop.

Thank you for your reply. The first thing I checked on the SDL.com site was if there was an update. I don't see one listed. The last download I see available to me is the version I have installed. I'll go hunt the version down. This is just another one of the frustrating things about SDL's website. I'm not a newbie when it comes to Internet and web pages, but SDL's web site is frustratingly difficult to use. I don't mean to sound angry, but hopefully someone with the ability to change things will see this message and do something about it.

I'll try your suggestion and report back. Thanks again!

After fruitlessly searching for the upgrade file, I tried live chat. Some guy on live chat tells me that the only way to get it is via Autoupdate.

For some reason, my SDL Trados Studio has the "Autoupdate" function grayed out, so I cannot turn it on. I checked the help and it says something about a Group Policy file that can inhibit Autoupdate from working. This is a freelance version on my personal computer, where I am System Admin, so I am beyond frustrated that I now have to scour my PC to see that file and try to fix this problem.

Can you help? Is there an easier way to change this?

  • Hi ,

The live chat team were correct, this is an autoupdate. If it's greyed out then you probably need to run a repair of Studio because it means the files in the Updates folder here are probably corrupt, or not there:

    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio5\Updates\

You could even try deleting the files in this folder and running a repair to make sure they are replaced with new ones from the installation file.

Thank you for your suggestion. As it turns out, the guy on the live chat finally understood that I just needed a link to download the upgrade version, and he provided it. After running the update, SDL Trados appears to be running normally, and that error message no longer appears. I also checked and the Autoupdate is activated. Yay.

I'll take this opportunity to complain about the format of these forums. Once I post something, I have not found a way to locate my post to update or reply. That is partly the reason my response has been delayed. Other forums where I participate have a place that lists "My threads", or "My posts" and indicate if anyone has replied. Not this forum. I do get emails telling me there's a new reply, but when I come to this site, I can't locate the post, no matter what. I happened to remember that there was one email with a link that posted to this thread and that's how I found it. However, there is another thread out there that I started, and I can't find it. Emails indicating a response to it don't have a link to it, and when I come here, I have no way of finding it. Searches have been fruitless.

I'm not a newbie as far as forums, web pages and tech is involved, but I can't seem to find relevant content when I need it here. Why is this website so unnecessarily difficult to use?

If you click on your "Profile" at the top right then you can select "Activity" and this will list all the posts you have made in the order you made them... most recent first.

Have you tried clicking on the link in the email as this will take you directly to the post?  All types of notifications have a link in them... at least that's how I work every day.

I do sympathise with you.  The reason why I always mention the poster in the responses is because often they have not set up their notifications properly, or they don't work well, and they have no idea there was a response.  So I always mention the poster and they always get the notification and can click on the link it contains.  The best place to raise your concerns over the community itself is here:

Like I mentioned, there was an email from this thread with a link, and that's how I found it. Your reply now generated a similar email. I do suppose I have my notifications set up correctly.

The other post I made I can't find. I replied to the last email I received and I got an automated reply saying the case was closed. I now see that must be another place, not part of this community. I think that comes from a problem report I filed at the SDL page. Anyway, I think the format stands to use some improvement.

Thank you for your good help and patience!

    Regards,
    Enrique

Hi  not necessarily.  Did you get two?  One telling you were mentioned and the other just an email containing the post?  If you got two then you have them set up correctly.  If you got one then you probably don't.
