How can a TM be made from the Microsoft Asian Languages Terminology Collection?

I found Microsoft Asian Languages Terminology Collection including English, Arabian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc. I am thinking to make a TM of only two languages from this. Can you please advise a method to do this? I tried to find some information on the Internet including the community but could not find one. Frank

  • Hi

I create a video a few years ago on this that is probably still helpful today:

    Hi Paul

    Thank you for your reply.
I used glossary converter version 4.10.**** but could not convert the MS Asian Language sdltb file. I tried some settings including:
General tab: Use MultiTerm template when creating ON/OFF, I think this setting is what you mention in the video while different version.
Spreadsheet tab: Use unprocessed XML when converting between termbases and spreadsheets: ON/OFF
ibd: Synonyms in Excel Tables: all options (No support, Full support and Multi-line format)

The following is at the beginning of the error message:
    ************************** Error message ***************************
There has been an error reading entry #0.

This termbase is encrypted and can't be converted.

at Sdl.MultiTerm.Tools.GlossaryConverter.Workflow.Converter.ConvertOneFile(IFilter inputFilter, IFilter outputFilter, String inputPath, FieldReader fieldReader)

    Program version 4.10.6586.24685

************************** The end of the Error message ***************************

I am wondering whether mdf or mtf files which are included in the MS Asian Language can be used for this purpose.

    I appreciate further reply.

    Sincerely
    Frank
  • Hi ,

The answer is in your message. You are trying to convert a protected termbase. Why don't you just go to the Microsoft Site and take the language pair you want as shown in the video? This way it'll be up to date and far easier.
