"an item with the same key has already been added"

Good afternoon, I'm using Trados Studio 2017.

I can't save the target file. I get the message "an item with the same key has already been added (in Spanish "ya se agregó un elemento con la misma clave" (an item with the same key has already been added).

Could you please help.

  • Hi Diana,

Excellent! Well done for finding a solution yourself! It is very often the case that something in the Word file causes this type of error so you have to go back to the Word file and find out what that is.

When you say 'figures', do you mean images or numbers? Images and icons (plus other possibly externally-introduced content such as a spreadsheet or content linked to a website, for example) can cause problems. Saving a copy of the Word file then deleting the images from that then creating a new project with that solves the problem. It's always wise to try saving to Target before beginning work on a Word translation if it contains anything beyond straight text, so that you don't have to go through the process of retranslation.

Afterwards, the removed content can be copied from the original file and pasted back into the translated file.

I'm glad you found the workaround so quickly.
    All the best!

  • Hi Alison,
Thank you for your comment. When I said "figures" y meant images. They didn't cause any problem when I translated a similar file (so I didn't think that could be the problem), but they did in this.
    Best regards,
    Diana
  • Hi Diana,

There are various reasons why images would work in one file and not in another. For example it can involve some extra, unexpected content that came into the document with the image rather than the image itself. This can happen in any complex word processing or desktop publishing format, not just with Word.

The essential thing to do is to try 'saving Target as' as soon as the translation project has been created, before translating. That way you can go back to the file and see what content could be causing the 'reconversion' failure.

I'm very glad you got it to work for you anyway!
    All the best,
    Ali :)
