Fuzzy Match Repair

Hi everyone!

I've been trying to figure out this fuzzy match repair issue for a while now, so you're my last hope, I'd much appreciate it if anyone could solve my issue.

The sample sentences are:

Hexomedine 1 pour mille solution pour application topicale

Hexomedine 1 pour mille

Qu'est-ce que HEXOMEDINE 1 POUR MILLE, solution pour application locale et dans quels cas est-il utilisé?

I soon have to demonstrate the new features of Trados 2017 to my colleagues (they haven't used it before). I have upgraded the TM I plan to use, to be sure that all the upLIFT features would work and used a document with similar sentences (see sample sentences above). I create a new project, insert my TM and start typing away, at which point I get my TU fragment recalls so very happy up till there.

However, once I go to the next segment which has small changes that are already in the TM, the fuzzy match does not get repaired, and no wrench symbol appears. I have made sure that all the boxes that need to be checked have been, and decreased the percentage down to 50% but still nothing seems to get repaired. Does anyone know where I'm going wrong and could anyone help me out?

Thanks!

  • Hi  - can you provide details of segments where you'd expect the match repair to occur, i.e. show us what is the sentence in the document, and what is the fuzzy match you get, but which is not repaired? Without knowing what the differences between the two segments are, it's not possible to know whether there should be any repair (and if there's a good reason why not, to explain what that reason is) ...

(It would also be useful to know how many TUs are in your TM)

  • Hi Kevin -
An example would be that the sentence in the source segment is:
Qu'est-ce que Hexomédine 1 pour mille, solution pour application locale et dans quels cas est-il utilisé?

    The fuzzy match turns up:
What Cefpodoxime is and what is it used for?

I know that "Hexomédine 1 pour mille, solution pour application locale" is in the TM, so I had thought it would delete Cefpodoxime and insert "Hexomedine....".

    Another exmaple would be:
Segment one: Hexomedine 1 pour mille, solution pour application locale
Segment two: Hexomedine 1 pour mille
Segment three: solution pour application locale
It doesn't recognise the "Hexomedine 1 pour mille" and only sometimes suggests "topical solution" as a translation (from the TM), despite both of them being in the TM.

There are around 13000 TU in my TM, I had chosen this one specifically as I remember there being a minimum requirement.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :D
  • Hi Nathalie

I think you're hitting an internal MatchRepair threshold limit that is currently in place as a precautionary measure. (It's probably time that limit was removed, or made configurable.) By default, MatchRepair won't attempt to process any changes involving more than three words in a row. So, if I create a small TM to simulate one of your examples, but use a smaller (3-word) change, I do get a repair, as in this screen shot:

However, with the longer change, I don't:

I hope that helps you prepare the demo.

    Kevin
