Starting out - various questions

Hi,

we're trying the trial version and have various questions.

Inputting files, is there a difference between inputting word files from Apple or Microsoft?

If we input a pdf, are the carriage returns at the end of each line treated as defining a segment?

Once we have a document in the system, and start to translate, how do we make sure the Translation Memory is activated and working? In the tutorial this looks automatic, but does not appear to be working in practice.

When aligning documents, how do we correct misaligned segments? - For example a header that goes over two lines is treated as two segments in the source language and as only one segment in the target language.

Is there a time log on the reports, logging time spent on a translation?

Thank you

  • Hi

Word files Should be no difference as long as they are Word files.... as far as I’m aware. Have you tested it?

Yes they will be. Better to clean up the Word file created by Studio when you open a pdf and then translate the Word file instead.

If you add your TM through File -> Options then all the projects you create will aready have this TM available to them.  If you add it through Project Settings then only the active project will have that TM and you'll have to add it again to the next one... and the next one etc.

You should review how to work with alignment to see how to do this. This article may help: multifarious.filkin.com/.../

Not by default. But there is a manual time tracker in the AppStore to do this; or Qualitivity on the AppStore which is entirely automated and records time and a lot more:

    appstore.sdl.com/.../

    appstore.sdl.com/.../
