I can't see or open a newly-created term-based translation memory

I can't see or open a newly-created term-based translation memory. When I try to open a new document, I can see it on the list of translation memories, but the icon is missing the orange triangle. I tried deleting the TM and creating a new one with a new name, but got the same result. I currently have over a dozen TMs in my list and they all work properly, but I don't know why this one doesn't! Can anyone suggest a fix for this?

Merci, Lise

  • Hi

You're welcome, I'm pleased to help!

Another reason a TM wouldn't be visible when accessed from within Studio would be if you were looking for it from a document or project that had a different language pair to the TM you were looking at (but you can use an app called AnyTM to achieve this) but I didn't suggest that because you were asking about the opposite scenario, where you can see a TM from within the translation job set up but not from Translation Memory View where you should be able to see any SDL TM.

So, you should be able to navigate to and open any TM from Translation Memory View. Are you sure that you're looking in the place where the TM is actually situated?

To further develop on my previous explanations...

If you can find the TM via Windows Explorer then double-clicking on the TM file from within Windows Explorer should open it in Translation Memory View without fail.

You can find the Explorer address of the individual TM here:

copy and paste the 'address' from the area I've highlighted in blue above and into the area I've highlighted in yellow below, either directly into Windows Explorer's top address line if you know how to, or into the 'Type here to search' area next to your Windows icon bottom left of your PC screen, which will bring up a link that you can click on.

Then you'll see the TM in its folder structure and you can double-click on it:

Or, actually thinking laterally, you can also go to the Open button in the Translation Memory View in Studio and  paste the address in there, too:

Something I should point out is that the actual address is C:\Users\alima\Documents\Clients\SDL\SDL002\Tm\fr-FR as on the left above in blue, but Windows then translates it into something prettier once I click out of it, as you see highlighted in yellow above.

I hope the above gives you a solution … if not, I must still be misunderstanding your scenario [^o)]

    All the best
