Time formatting and auto-substitution/auto-propagation

 Hi,

I am experiencing some odd behaviour with time formatting and auto-substitution, where the first translation segment of a time translation (e.g., 10:00) is propagated correctly throughout the document, but all other times are translated differently (e.g., "10:05" is translated as "10:05 AM", etc.).

Here are a couple of screenshots to give you an idea (sorry about how small they are, I couldn't enlarge them without them becoming blurred):

And this is what the translation results window shows for segment 37 above.

Ok, so why is the word "AM" attached to it, if the translation result shows 10:30?

Here is another example:

I thought it probably had something to do with the auto-substitution settings, but even after changing them, I get the same results (and after deleting the first translation segment from the TM and then re-confirming it).

I'm confused, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

I tested this and initially got the same result as you.  So I edited the Project Settings (not in File -> Options) for the active project, in fact for the file I had open at the time, and set this:

Trados Studio project settings showing 'Dates and Times' with 'Short time' format set to 'H:mm'.

    Now I get this:

Trados Studio translation segment with time '10:05' highlighted and an arrow pointing to the confirmed translation '10:05'.

Perhaps the problem is related to you changing this setting in the wrong place?  If I confirm the first one the others are autopropagated correctly without the AM:

Trados Studio translation segment showing the source time '10:05' and the correctly autopropagated target time '10:05' with a 100% match.

Perhaps a couple of other things to check:

    1. What version of Studio are you using?

    2. Check your windows language settings and make sure you see the same thing.  Maybe windows is overruling Studio here somehow?

  • Hi Paul, thanks for the quick reply.

I tried your suggestion of changing the setting in the Project Settings pane, but it already had the right setting:

I then changed the Windows language setting:

But I still get the same problem:

And also, if you notice, in the next couple of segments, the original confirmed 100% match segment of "10:00" translates with no "AM" beside it, yet the following segment of "10:05" translates as "10:05 AM".

    Weird.

By the way, I believe I'm using the latest update of Studio 2017:

I'm also using Parallels Desktop on a Mac.
