Hi! I'm trying to save the Trados file into a Word document (save target file as)

Hi! I'm trying to save the Trados file into a Word document (guardar destino como) and I get the following message: "Missing bookmark start tag with name :_Toc382224933. Writing to Word document not possible". I need to deliver this translation ASAP!!! What can I do? Thanks a lot

  • Hi ,

I meant tag verification after translation, as there may be tags in the Source that aren't in the Target. The quickest way to do this is to open the sdlxliff and use F8, as Paul says. Though you have to have the correct boxes ticked in your project settings for the verification you want to work, for example...

Trados Studio Project Settings window showing Verification options with QA Checker 3.0 and Tag Verification enabled.

Detailed view of Tag Verifier settings in Trados Studio with options for tags added, deleted, order change, and spacing around tags.

The above is a way to find out if the translation process has caused the bookend error.

Before translation, trying File > Save Target As when you're at the stage of having opened the file for translation and/or created a project and you have the sdlxliff open ready for translation is a good idea because you can double-check that the actual content of the converted Word document is going to allow saving to target. If it doesn't then you can perform the type of checks that Paul is describing on the Word file itself, in order to get the Word file to run smoothly through SDL Studio.

Sometimes, also, if you can open the Word file and save it to .docx this can help, or copy the content of the Word file and paste it to a new Word file can also eliminate corrupt elements. There is various content that can cause issues, from embedded images, headers and footers, content from other software - Excel tables for example - or active content such as macros or weblinks. All sorts of possibilities!

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, I got hooked on watching the tennis on TV!

    All the best,

    Ali :)
