Concordance search and autosuggest not functioning

Hello,

I have searched and searched the community, and watched a useful video by Nora, and I'm fairly sure all the correct boxes are ticked as advised, but my autosuggest function and concordance search are just not working...apologies that this is fairly vague, but, if I start typing 'furniture', for example, I would expect a few options to pop up, eg. furnish, fur... as I know I have already typed all three of those words. Also, when typing a word into the target text such as Fontainebleau (I had to type it many times recently!!) it doesn't pop up as a recognised term. Surely it should be part of the TM and show up? I have no termbase created yet, would this help? My TM contains just over 4300 units. I have Studio 2017.

Thank you,  Claire

  • Hi Claire,
Before you can use the autosuggest feature, you have to create an autosuggest dictionary which is only possible with 10,000 translation units (i.e. segments) in your TM. Not counting the 10,000-TU requirement, the same applies to terms: for your Fontainebleau to be recognized, you need to create a termbase first.
I am not sure how exactly your concordance search 'is just not working'. Whether you invoke it by selecting a word in source column and then pressing F3, or whether you expect it to pop up but it doesn't?

  • Hello Claire,

Sorry if you have already seen this thread but just to cover all bases and check nothing has been missed.

Please check the images posted by Jerzy Czopik to ensure the setting are correct.

  • Hi Claire,

Sorry to hear about your frustration with AutoSuggest. It sounds like you want to see two particular AutoSuggest features working: upLift and term recognition.

For term recognition, you do need to create a termbase and feed it manually. That would help with your Fontainebleau example. Here's a link to a video that explains the basics of getting started with a termbase:

For upLift to work, your TM needs some previous preparation (upgrading) before fragments start being offered. If your TM was created in Studio 2017, then fragment matching should kick in as soon as you pass the 1000 translation unit mark. If it's an older TM, make sure to select Upgrade for your TM, and it will be prepared for fragment matching. Then, there's one more thing you need to do. Go to Project Settings, find your TM, go to Search, and make sure you enable fragment matching for TU Fragments (disabled by default). If you'd like to see even individual words come up in AutoSuggest, you can lower those numbers.

Trados Studio Project Settings showing Fragment Matching Options for TM with 'Use TM' checked and minimum values for a match set to 70% for words and 50% for significant words.

Regarding Concordance, I'm a bit puzzled, the only reason Concordance wouldn't work is if the Concordance checkbox in the TM is unchecked. Are all the right boxes checked in your TM under Project Settings? Or do you mean you're not getting Concordance suggestions in AutoSuggest?
