Accidentally unchecked the "update" check box for TM and cannot check it back

Hello,

following strange thing happened to me in SDL Trados Studio 2017:

I have received a package for translation and while pretranslating using some of my old TMs I have accidentally unchecked the check box for update of the TM which was included in the package and now if want to check it again, it is grayed, cannot be checked and therefore I cannot update the TM I have received with the package. Can someone help?

  • Hello Steven,

Thanks for tip, its my first time using it :-)

So I have tried to completely reopen the package from scratch and it works normally. The problem is that I have mentioned this issue after all translation work in that project was done, so in case of reopening the package I would have to start again (even though I can create another "working" TM, update it from complete project and use it as a base and have almost for all segments 100% match). Anyway I think there must be easiest way to rectify this (or it might be a bug in Studio). Below I am sending the screenshot. Note that the checkbox "Update" is grey and cannot be checked. The checkbox "Enable" next to the first line is not grey, but cannot be checked as well. Anyway so it was even after opening the original package "from scratch", so I think its normal.

    Best Regards

    Michal

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing the 'Update' checkbox greyed out and unclickable, and the 'Enable' checkbox next to the first line also unclickable but not greyed out.

  • Hello ,

The problem here is that you received a SDLPPX project- which will contain all you need from the client.
They are however not designed to have any resources added or removed from them.
The screen shot actually shows a 'project tm' which when your client creates the orginal PPX is automatically added.
If you go to your project folder you should find the SDLXLIFF file which you could use to update your own memory.

Worth noting, is the fact that only the SDLXLIFF file is sent back to the client when you create a return package.
If you want to use your own resources, it is maybe worthwhile asking your client just just to send you the project files so you can create your own projects.

  • Hello Steven
OK, I understand. Anyway it is not big issue, at least for me as I can easily add my own TM to such project (although this project is not designed for it) and this TM can be updated. This works - I checked it. I hope for the client it is not issue as well.
    Thanks for the explanation
