Bilingual Review file error "Problem when merging content of segment 1"

Hi everyone,

I've had a bit of a look in the community at various solutions for solving errors within Bilingual review but I haven't found anything quite like this yet.

I'm trying to update a file from bilingual review, the client has reviewed it and is now sending it back, the only problem is that it won't go in. Studio is kicking up a very sad error.

I tried re-exporting for bilingual review and pointing the program back to the existing reviewed document, but this didn't help.

There is nothing visibly wrong with the file, and the client knows not to touch tags etc. I'm not sure if the fact that it is EN>ZH matters?

Here I have the full error text:

Error dialog in Trados Studio showing 'An error has occurred while trying to load a project' with details including file path and exception message.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this before and if there is any way to make studio take it?

I'm a Project Manager, there are over 300 adaptations to a very large file, and I can't really ask the linguist to go through line by line and implement the changes and not pay them. Thus it's up to me to figure it out or to go line by line myself.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

  • Sorry for digging up a very old thread.
I had the same issue as STB USER and I managed to solve it with the workaround on the page you linked (thank you kindly). Is there something I should keep in mind for future bilingual reviews to avoid this problem?

    Many thanks

  • You saved me! Thanks a million.

  • Hi , I am getting the same problem. I looked at the KB, but this does not help because the file created by Studio IS already in the old version of Word. I exported the bilingual file and did a minor change myself, then updated the file and I got the same error. I opened the freshly created Word bilingual file and Word tells me it is open in compatibility modus. So, I do not know why Studio creates a Word file in an old version instead of the new one. I tried it on several computers, but I got every time an old Word file. And I tried also on another project, still getting an old Word file and update does not work.

I could not find any settings to change this behaviour, and since I could not find any posts in the community I think that the problem relates to my Studio (but on different computers the same issue?!?). Shall I create a ticket with support or have you encountered this problem already?

    Thanks for your help,

    Angelo

Can you import the freshly created file without opening it in Word? If so, has any changes to formatting been applied in the file you couldn't import? Has any part of the first column been modified?

  • Hi  , thank you for your reply. No I cannot, I exported and tried to reimport the file without even opening it in Word. And I still get the same error.

This is very strange. I am using this method for years now and send the files to a revisor, who uses an Office version I don't even know. We have had more or less no problems over the past few years. Does this happen for all files on this computer or is it a particular file? Can you try the same project on another PC?

  • I tried it on my laptop, on my desktop and on my virtual desktop, the same issue. And I also tried some other project. I always get the same problem. I will try on a PC of one of our employees, to see if the problem persists. It is very strange, because I could not find any posts in the community, so I think it works for everybody else. I just cannot imagine, why it won't work with me. I have Windows 10 and 11 and the last version of Office 365 (but I do not think that Studio considers which version of Word one is using...

I have Windows 11 Pro 64-bit on both my computers and use Office 365 too. So far no problems with that. Is your Office current? Two weeks ago I have had a problem with using MS Word as spellchecker for Studio. This was due to an update of MS Office, which was recently changed and the macro security blocking this function was reduced, so it works again. Maybe worth updating all applications.

  •  You won't believe it, I tried on another computer with Studio 2019 and 2021 AND IT WORKS.I don't get it.

  • Provided many users report various strange errors I have never seen on my computer, I do believe anything you say. Your task now will be to find out the differences between the PCs. Even the art how Office and Studio have been installed may play a role here.
