Bilingual File - target text appears in the same column as the source text

When I load a bilingual file (RTF), Studio 2017 fails to recognise the file properly: segments that should appear in the target-language column are loaded in the source-language column instead.

Example, correct appearance:
Source: Document template in English. Target: Dokumentvorlage auf English.

Example, false:
Source: Document template in English. Target: empty
Source: Dokumentvorlage auf English. Target: empty

What can be done?

Actually, I was wondering if this box was unticked in the Word filetype settings but TICKED in the RTF file settings, whether the RTF file would then be converted correctly to SDLXLIFF.

However, I found the following on the SDL Studio Help pages:

    Process files with tw4winMark
    ...
if you want SDL Trados Studio to use the Word 2000-2003 file type or the Word 2007-2010 file type for these files instead of using the Bilingual Workbench file type. Usually, the twin4winMark style indicates that the file is bilingual and that it was produced from Trados Translator's Workbench. Note that if you disable this option, the Bilingual Workbench filter processes a non-bilingual file which has this style defined, the file type produces an empty *sdlxliff file with no segments.

    Trados Translator's Workbench filetype
    ...f
ile type for processing bilingual documents created in SDL Trados Translator's Workbench using Microsoft Word as a translation editor. ( *.doc; *.docx files).

The Trados Translator's Workbench filetype is actually an old filetype that was used to translate with a Trados toolbar but in Word itself. The resulting bilingual Word files usually open fine as a bilingual SDLXLIFF with the default Word filtype settings.

So, how about trying another workaround: open the file in Word, save it to to '.doc' or '.docx' then try adding that file to a new project and see if it works.

    Might that work, Steven Whale?

    All the best,

    Ali
