Automatic showing of Google Translate results and sharing Google Translate access in package

Hi Trados homies,

I just connected  Google Translate to Trados 2015 and it works perfect. However, I am seeking your support with two questions:

1. When I create a package which allows access to GG translate server and send it to my collaborator, why can't she use the GG translate function? I can't share the API Key for her to input manually because this is my company's account - it's confidential.

2. Is there any way Google Translation can show up automatically for the entire document without me having to click on each and every line?

Your help is very much appreciated.

  • Hello Thuong TT (ThuongTT) ,

I think the problem here is simply that the  translator needs their own Google API key.

Although you may have created the package, the translator will not be able to use your access.

As to the second part of your question, are you trying to pre-translate your files entirely through google translate?

If you are using your own TM, you can automate the use of AT for example -

Trados Studio options menu with an arrow pointing to the checked option 'Apply automated translation when no TM match is found'.

Are you using a plugin like MT Enhanced or the out of the box Google in Studio?  If you used a plugin then the translator receiving the package would also have to have this plugin installed.

We also don't share the API key in a package for security reasons so for the translator to interactively woioirk with Google you either have to provide your API key some other way, or they need their own account.

Yes.  If you check the option in your Project Settings, under batch tasks, to use Machine Translation when no TM match is found then you can pretranslate the entire file using a combination of your TM and MT.  Then when you create your package the results will already be in there and the translator can post-edit them.

Trados Studio Project Settings window showing Pre-translate Files option selected with a red arrow pointing to 'Apply automated translation' under 'When no match found' section.
