Create a New Project in Studio 2019 (SR 1 - 15.1.2.48878)

Hi!

Every time I try to use the 'Create a New Project' wizard, no matter if I want to create a project from scratch or using one of my templates, the wizard behaves like this:

1. I add Project Name, select languages, add Location Path and then I add translation files.

2. Once I add the files, I get the following error message: "The specified project location folder already contains some files. Please specify and empty or non-existing folder" (non-existing folder?!? - haha, good one). NOTE: I ALWAYS give Studio a location to a new and empty folder.

3. When I try to cancel the wizard, I get the above error message over and over again, it is also impossible to close Studio normally and I have to close it through Task Manager.

4. I open Studio again and THEN I can create a project without any errors, doing everything exactly as I did in the first attempt.

This happens every time. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure if this has been happening since I purchased 2019 or since I installed SR1.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

  • Hi Aleksandra
So far as I know, you must not give Studio an empty folder, because Studio CREATES the project folder. For location path, you must specify the folder (e.g. Projects) inside which you want Studio to CREATE the new project folder for this project (e.g. Projects\Project1).
If you create a folder yourself called 'Project1' and put your source files in it, and then tell Studio that the location path is Project1, you will get this error message, I think.
My set up is that I have a folder called 'New Work' for all incoming source files, and a folder called 'Projects' for all new projects. Because Studio remembers where you last put something, it always asks to put the new project folder inside the 'Projects' folder and it always looks in 'New Work' for the source files. Saves a lot of time browsing. After the project is created, you can move the source files from 'New Work' to your created project folder, or delete them as they will already be in the source language folder of the project.

  • Hi Simon,

    Thanks for sharing!
I DO give Studio a location inside which I want Studio to create the new project folder for a project. I never put files directly in a folder I created, I put them into the Studio wizard.

I now tried to replicate this error and on first attempt I created the project without issues, but on the second I got an error message. The difference was that on first attempt I first gave Studio a location path, then added a project name, and then added a file. On the second attempt I first gave Studio a location path, then added a file, and then tried adding a project name. And that's when I got an error message. So OK, perhaps you have to do the wizard according to some specific steps. Still, after the error occurs, I cannot delete the file from the wizard (the same error message appears), I cannot change the project name (the same error message appears), I cannot even cancel the wizard (the same error message appears) or close Studio. What I CAN do is delete the folder with the file in the specified location - then I am able to delete the file from the wizard, change the path and project name, and the file again, but I still get the same error message and I still cannot cancel the wizard or close Studio (I can only crash it through Task Manager).

And this, gentlemen, looks like a bug. I understand that specific predefined steps have to be followed to create a new project (my bad if I thought that I can do steps at random order). However, a failure to cancel the wizard if something goes wrong or even close the program does not seem to be a normal behavior. What can I do?

  • Does anyone have any tips? Is there another way I can report a (possible) bug? Thanks!

  • I am also getting this error, was there any way to resolve it? The wizard has also deleted all existing projects three times, it is getting frustrating.
