Error Message: "This project already contains a source file named", what to do?

Hello,

I have created an excel file to translate via Studio2019 (Freelance Edition). However, I need to adjust a few things in the file, so I removed it from the list and made the adjustments and then tried to add it again to the project I am working on.

After I did the adjustments, I started receiving the error message "This project already contains a source file named", every time I add the file to the project.

I made sure that the source folder and the target folder do not contain that file, and they don't. So I am not sure why Studio says that it exists.

Can you please advise?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi

It sounds as though you have not really removed the file from your project and it is still referenced in the sdlproj. If you do things like this in Studio 2019 I think the easiest way to replace the file is to use the Right-Click -> Update File. This option will simply replace the existing file with your new one, and even better, if you have partially translated the original it will make sure that anything in the new file that translated before is still translated now. This is one of the best new features in Studio 2019.

  • I have landed here today, because I find myself presently in the same situation as Noha L;

In a project I got an error message for one specific sdlxliff file:

"The document cannot be processed since it contains unexpected contents."

This file could not be analysed and could not be opened in the project for translation.

So I decided to replace the file with a previous version of the same file (with same file name), to see if the previous version would work without an error.

So in the files view I selected the file and in the context menu selected "Delete files" and deleted it. So it disappeared from the list.

I made sure that it was physically removed from the location on the hard drive and then tried to add the previous version of this file in its place. This is when I got the error message:

    "Warning
This project already contains a source file named [filename]"

So now I read your suggestion "Right-Click -> Update File", which I would like to try out, but the problem is, the file is gone from the project, doesn't appear in the list any more, and I can't get it back into the project any more with "Add files" (because of the warning that the project already contains it.)

But this file is neither in the file list of the project nor physically in the project folder on the hard drive.

For the moment I am out of ideas on how to get this file back into the project.

  • Hello

After Paul helped me fix this problem, I have found myself in it a few time after.

When I remove the file from Studio and from my desk, I can't seem to be able to add it to Studio with the same file name, so I rename the file and add it to Studio, and it works fine after. I am still not sure why the old name stays in the memory of Studio. But I think I learned to avoid removing the file from Studio and my PC, instead, I just update it (as suggested by Paul).

I hope that helps. And I hope someone can advise on the issue of how to add the same file with the same name without the need to rename it.

    Have a good day/night,
