There are a few things here-

1) you should not (as a translator) have received a return package (RPPX) but a SDLPPX.

There is nothing you can do with a RPX as you did not create the project in the first place- you would simply repackage the original SDLPPX as a RPX and return this to the client.

When you right click a segment (confirm a segment) the changes will be made in the SDLXLIFF (SDLXLIFF file) and the TM updated accordingly.

If the project (PPX) contains a TM - then the changes you confirm in EditoR mode and to the SDLXLIFF will be saved to the TM.

Basic example-

If the TM originally contained the following sentence

The red car drove down the road.

And you now change red for green and confirm the segment the TM will now contain TWO segments.

Now if you come to another similar sentence in the editor view you will have the choice of which translation to use- or use a different translation.

If you are not receiving any suggestions (and you know you should) then you need to check the TM settings and ensure the TM is enabled as follows-

A) I have actually received two files: the sdlppx and the sdlrpx

According to the client, opening the sdlppx would just open the package with the machine-translated segments. The other, they ask to import it into the project. 

I did something for them a while ago and I seem to recall that the "import" phase was the same opening first the ppx, and later just opening the rpx, and then the segments would show the already modified/fixed machine-translated segments. I just wanted to confirm if that was standard way to do it. Now I think it is. In any case, I do not have that much time for them to send it other way, and they have done it this way before (sending those two files for reviewers)

My job is to revise those segments, to make sure the translator "repaired" the machine-translation properly.

My main concern was if opening one and then the other, is the same as what they request (importing the rpx into the project)

I think it is. I just tried a few minutes ago, and the document shows 

B) Regarding the TMs:

They show marked as you showed me. Thanks!

However, I'm still doubtful regarding sub-options:

Under "Search", I just saw that "Search both project and main translation memories" is un-checked. For some reason it is defaulted like that. I think that could explain why in another project, I got the feeling that every time I confirmed a segment, later only my TM was offered as an option in subsequent segments.

Therefore, in order for the assistant to offer both TMs, that option ("Search both project and main translation memories") should be checked, right?

Additionally, should I also check "Look up segments in MT even if a TM match has been found"?

This is simply not correct- you cannot import an SDLRPX into a SDLPPX- -as this is simply the format in which you return the completed translation and then your client updates their main project.

If your client wants you to work with the contents of the RPX- then they MUST creat a new PPX for you.

In regards to the TM's - there will only be a project TM IF the client created this when they created the PPX they sent you.

As long as the options are ticked as shown before then there is no reason why you should not be getting results.

If this is the case we would need to see the project (or at least full screen shots) to start understanding how the client has put together this project
