Locked segments should not be counted in the untranslated words counter at the bottom right of Editor - otherwise it is useless as an indicator of remaining work to be done in a document. Or it should be possible to choose to exclude locked segments.

You can filter on exactly the segments you need (or dont).

You would try the WIP report. Not as convenient as the ready reckoner at the bottom of the screen and I agree we need an option to exclude locked segments.
If they are locked, then one suggestion that may help if appropriate, is to select all your locked, unlock them, change the status to translated, lock them again and then the count will be as you wanted.

I don't think this works - what I need is a count of remaining untranslated words in the document in order to assess my progress with a job. The counter at the bottom right is good, except if there are locked segments (locked by the client to indicate that they should not be translated), because these are included in the count even if they are locked precisely to indicate that they should not be translated.

Good idea, I will use that as a workaround, thanks. I would not feel comfortable unlocking and/or changing status for the locked segments as they would have been locked and given their current status by the client.

Change the status of the segments and then change their status back when you are finished.
For example, I just received a file with locked segments having the status of "Not Translated", "Draft" and "Translated".
I selected the "Translated" segments, unlocked them, changed their status to "Signed Off" and locked them again.
Then I did the same with the "Draft" segments, except I changed them to "Sign-off Rejected" and locked them again.
Then I did the same with the "Not Translated" segments, except I changed them to "Translation Rejected" and locked them.
I don't use these status values anywhere else in the job, so I can change all of these segments back when I have completed the translation.
(It would be nice to have a few other "spare" status values to use like this. Maybe SDL could add a few, like "User1", "User2", "User3", etc ;-)
