I see what you mean. Studio doesn't extract the Word object as it does with Excel ones:

Waiting for any other comments, I think you can't do it without pre-processing somehow the Word file: the way you do it or with a VBA script that may help you with saving each Word object.

If the feature is not in the SDL radar yet, I'd enter a feature request in the Ideas section, here in the forum:
