Grey background of text missing in Word file

Hello,

We have received a document for translation which has text in some parts as can be seen below.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing text with a grey background indicating conditional text or link.

The text that appears with grey background color is something like conditional text/link, cause when we open the Word file we receive this message.

Warning message in Microsoft Word stating 'This document contains links that may refer to other files. Do you want to update this document with the data from the linked files?' with options 'Yes' and 'No'.

Although that this supposed to be background color, it is not. When we set up the project in Studio, the grey color is missing, see image below.

Comparison of text appearance in Trados Studio and Microsoft Word, showing missing grey background in Trados Studio.

The "real problem" is not that grey is missing from Studio editor, but when we export the translated file, "grey" background is missing too.

Please note that this is not a style, nor any other formatting. Even if I click on "clear formatting", its still grey. When I hover over the text, nothing shows, nor when I press "Ctrl+click" (it's not a link).

Any ideas how can I protect the grey in the exported file?

Here are the settings I use in Studio.

  • It would really help to have a sample text just with these objects in them.  I tested all kinds to try and replicate this but can't find a problem with it.  I think you are looking at a field of some sort that is also a bookmark because bookmarks are the only things in Word I know that dosplay these grey brackets (with the appropriate option set in Word) and they can only be formatted with a background using some sort of word macro... but if you bookmark a field then I can achieve this.

However, when I do this I always see tags inStudio which I need to place to make sur they are available in the target file.

    Please share a sample.
