This is a huge problem to me and other Trados users I have spoken to. Basically, I use the search window A LOT, and I always forget to close it. When I am switching to other windows, I do often end up closing the search window - note: at a much later stage when the search is no longer important to me, and then the editor immediately moves to a completely different place in the document (where I don't want to be). How can I disable this function? It is extremely annoying and happens to me AT LEAST once every five minutes. If I wanted to keep searching, I would have pressed F4. Please help!!!

P.S. I have Studio 2021.

Please tell us, how are you switching to other windows and what kind of windows these are.

I use Alt+Tab and usually I switch to Chrome. The reason why I close the search window at this stage is because, when using Alt+Tab, the search window ends up being in the way when I try to switch quickly between Studio and my browser/Word/other applications.

Well, the search window for any program like Word or else will be in your way, when using ALT+TAB. Try closing the search window before changing from Studio or press ALT+TAB one time more to go to Studio main window and not the search window. In my case that works perfectly.

The problem isn't only when I change windows. If I have used the search window, I usually immediately click in the target segment. Already after that, no matter when or how I close the search window, the editor will jump. Wouldn't it just be easier to remove this "bug" in the programme? Or why is it even there? I can't think of any situation where this would be needed.

It is a strange problem and TBH I fail to see any bug here. Honestly, I do not fully understand your problem.

This is what the problem looks like:

1. I perform a search.

2. I move through the document with the search until I find what I am looking for.

3. I go back to the segment I was translating.

4.  At some point - often when switching between windows with Alt+tab - I realise the search window is still "up" and in the way so I close it by pressing escape.

5. The Editor automatically moves to the word that was last searched. 

Since I perform A LOT of searches, this happens to me constantly and is slowing me down, always having to find my way back to where I was. The ideal way would be if I every time remembered to close the search window right away, but I never remember to do this, either because I don't consciously think about it (I am excited my search helped me find the right term and immediately want to start translating while it is fresh on my mind) or consciously, because I think I might perform another search very soon again.

Either way, I don't understand why this feature is there, and like I mentioned before: I have spoken to other translators who are frustrated with this feature. Is there no possibility to remove it?

TBH honest unfortunately, no.

This would happen, when you activated the search again.

I just tried to reproduce what you say, but the only effect I see when closing a search window, which was in the background to which I returned by ALT+TAB is, that the last searched word is selected in the source text, but the cursor remains in the target segment where it was before. Just try pressing any key after your action and you'll see the cursor exactly at the place where it was before. This is only the view, which shows the selected word in source, but there is NO cursor there.
