You should be able to work in the trial mode on another machine for 30 days. Returning a license usually goes fairly quickly these days. Or use the opportunity for a spontaneous break and recharge?

I'll try the Trial mode then. I'd like to avoid missing this deadline if I could.

Actually, the past couple of days have been a "forced vacation" since my main computer is out of commission! Still, I manage to stay busy.

If you have not already used a version of Studio on the other computer for the full length of time of the 'trial license' then you will be able to run it in Professional mode though I'm not sure how big a TM you will be able to use.

However, it would definitely be worth the hassle of deactivating and reactivating your license, it only takes seconds.

That which takes the time is the installation, which will take the same amount of time whether you use your license or not.

If you have a Freelance license, you can deactivate it on your account My licenses page.

If for any reason that doesn't work, for example if you you have a Professional license, you can ask the SDL licencing team to reset your license for you here:

You will see the following:

Click on Request License Reset and a chat form will open up and there will be someone to chat with who can reset your license straight away. It is rare that there is nobody available on chat but if this is the case, the button will indicate it and you can proceed via 'Submit Case' and you'll get a license reset within 24 hours.

Just wondering how the recovery of your hard drive went?

I'm asking because I have a customer who's hard drive has become corrupted so they've lost a lot of work. The person in the computor repair shop has said that the file extensions are not common as they are specific to Studio and their recovery software most likely wouldn't recognise them and therefore wouldn't be able to recover them.

Did you get all of your files back? If so, do you know what recovery software was used?

I've actually had two separate events on this laptop. This thread refers to the first of them. Offhand, I don't know what type of recovery software was used. I am returning to the shop soon, so I will make it a point to ask. The tech told me that the hard drive was barely working, but somehow they managed to extract the full amount of my data files. I felt like I did not lose any work files, mercifully.

That same laptop has crashed again (hence my impending return to the shop), but this time I opted to purchase a new one. I use Google Backup and Sync, and have recovered my files from there with some aggravation for time lost, but apparently with good success.

This again shows the crucial meaning of a daily backup, whatever kind you make it. A backup on at least two different media, done daily with no excuses is a must to each and every freelance translator.

Hello, does your hard drive can still be detected? If so, you can just connect your hard drive to another PC and then use a recovery tool to recover your project first and then continue your work. As for data recovery tools, you can try Bitwar Data Recovery, this tool is free and useful. Hope it still helps.

Thank you for your input. The shop did manage to recover nearly the entire contents of my crashed drive. At this point, I have purchased a new computer and transferred my files there, so hopefully this issue is all in the past for me. As Jerzy Czopik mentioned above, this was an object lesson of the importance of daily backups.
