If a TU has not been modified or used since it was created, the Value data will read the same in all 3 entries, Created, Last modified and Last used:

However, as you'll see below, once a TU has been modified or used since its creation, the ID of the system, the user and the date and time will be updated:

This information can be used for TM searches, you can filter by a particular user and date, for example.

So, for example, if I accidentally clean a document to the wrong TM and I know which date I did it, I can filter out the segments for deletion.

The above is a very basic example but I hope it answers your question...

How is "Last used by" determined? The user copied the TM hit into a document?

"Last used by" is triggered by confirming a segment. A record is attached to the translation unit in the TM for the most recent use of the TU.

thank you for sharing your example. Your screenshot does make sense as the last modified originator is actually the last one to touch the segment.

I raised that question because I've come across a different example, i.e. a "last changed by" step done at the same time of the "last used by" step, but with different users in a typical translation-review process.

That would mean, if those two were attributed to different users, that those two users were accessing the same translation memory at the same time. 

If they were attributed to the SAME user then it means that user changed the content of the TU at the same time as he/she used it.

Does that make sense?

Dear Alison,

I couldn't find the example I had in mind but it still shows a strange situation: the Diction user is the internal reviewer, so how can it be that the "lasted used by" step (=external translation, buttom) is prior to the "last edited by" step (final internal review)? Translator and reviewer are not using the same TM simultaneously (the external translator works with a file-based project TM).

Why is the date and time attributed to the second to last person to work on the file after that of the last person to work on the file.

Now, that is confusing... Paul?
