I think there are possibly a number of issues with the file and how this has been processed.

This happens a lot I think, when you are copying text is such a manner into Open Office and therefore Studio is struggling to understand the formatting..

You could either hide the spaces (might still cause an issue in Studio) or possibly do a Search & Replace (in Open Office) and replace the non breaking space with simply normal spaces.

I would suggest properly formatting the document, before creating a new project in Studio.

Then open the document, immediately 'save target as' and if this saves, then you will be able to work with the file. If however there are issues, you will need to look again at the source file.

Thanks for the response. I removed the grey spaces between words and completely removed all formating. Unfortunately, this didn't resolve the problem. I still can't open the translated file. I get the same error message (attached). I tried opening it in other document editor (instead of OpenOffice) but no joy..still the same error message appears (attached).

Have you or anyone else had this problem of opening the target document?

Any advice or links to relevant troubleshooting articles would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try saving the source file as a DOC and handling it as a Word file instead?  Did you also run a verification check prior to savng the target in Studio?

I saved the source file as a DOC (.txt) which has allowed me to open the target document. But this isn't ideal. I'd still like to save my source file in some word editor (be it MS Word, OpenOffice, Trio Office Writer, etc).

I did as you had suggested, running a verification check prior to saving the target in Studio, but to no avail. I continue to get the same error message.

Unfortunately, I can't even attach the source document here to show you as an error message prevents me doing even that (see attached).

Does the problem lie in the word editor I'm using? Surely Trados can read all odf files regardless of the editor platform? Again, any help with this would be much appreciated. (Until I resolve this I can't actually see any translations outside of a sdlxliff format).

Try zipping the file first.

I copied a webpage to Office Writer and had no problems with it in Studio so having your source file will be helpful.

I also meant try saving to DOC not to TXT.  You can do this with OpenOffice and the formatting will be retained.

Problem resolved!

I did just as you said...I zipped and unzipped the source document, after which I saved it as a doc file. I ran the verification and saved the target... AND I'm able to open it.

Thank you very much for putting an end to my misery in resolving this issue. I intend to go through the user manual and help guides with a fine toothcomb to avoid similar obstacles.
