I have had this issue before many times.

I no longer have this since I followed the advice (found somewhere on here, I think) to perform a repair installation of Studio.

It did the trick for me.

Here's how you perform a Windows Repair of Studio (or any other software that is misbehaving)...

1. Close all SDL applications.
2. Open the Control Panel:
   • Windows Vista/7: Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
   • Windows 8: Right-click on the screen at bottom-left corner and choose Control Panel > Uninstall a Program.
   • Windows 10: Right-click on Start > Control Panel > Select View by: Small Icons > Programs and Features
   • - or type 'Control Panel' in the search line on your bottom Windows toolbar.
3. Click/highlight the relevant SDL product from the list (e.g. SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1) and click 'Repair' or 'Uninstall/Change' (then Yes then Repair) either on the top toolbar or on the right-click dropdown menu.
4. Restart Studio/MultiTerm.

Thank you. What exactly do you mean by a repair installation? I know some programs can do a repair if you start the installer when the program is already installed, but the program has been updated, for which I don't have an installation file, and the original installer won't touch it because it is a more recent version.

I do not have a repair option for Trados studio, although I do for MultiTerm possibly because it hasn't been updated, unfortunately. I have tried resetting it to its initial state, and I tried it immediately after installing studio 2019, with the same result.

If there is no 'Repair' link, then click on 'Uninstall/Change'

Then up pops a dialog that allows you to click 'Repair'

I tried that, but it can't do it because the updated version is more recent than the installer.

Normally the version visible under Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features is the updated version and as such can be repaired successfully.

Anyway, the next step is to uninstall and reinstall. If that doesn't help then you have the right to contact SDL Studio Installation Help here:

installation and licensing help

Select 'Installation' from the 'Case type' dropdown menu.
