SDL Trados 2019 Trial version. Unexpected dictionary file format first line should contain word count.

I created a project yesterday, no problem. Worked on a couple files, all good.

Just opened it again today to continue and got this message:

Trados Studio error message 'Spell check cannot be performed because the default spell checking engine is not configured.' with options to Configure or Close.

I don't have Office installed on this machine (Windows 10, new install, and never have had Office on any older machines so I use the Hunspellchecker with no issues up to now on 2015 Freelance) so I can't switch to that. Anyway I wasn't dong a spell check so this is a weird message.

I deactivated Custom dictionaries in the settings, which at least allowed me to open my files, but now i can't do spell checks. PROBLEM!

Anyone have an idea what is up?

Thank you!

Kevin

  • Hi ,

I have been in contact with Ana (Live Chat) and have tried to reproduce this error using the same files/package/

Adding/removing custom dictionaries etc but to no avail.

I also note that you have now the same issue with a different job (which actually might be helpful).

As you use different versions (FL and Pro and 2015 & 2019, I think this is actually where the issue might be lying as there is a conflict between resources.

As you are using the 2019 Trial- I would suggest completely removing this from the system-

Then reset Studio 2015 to default.

Now create a simple project of your own using of course Hunspell and add your own custom dictionary.

This should work now without an issue I think.

Now close Studio 2015 completely and reinstall the trial version and then create your own project in 2019.

Of course as you are a MAC user, please double check everything is being installed and saved to the right Windows folders.
