Studio starts, locks and then closes down

This is new to me. After Studio is started and I select a project to open its files, either nothing happens (I cannot affect Studio in any way) or the Window cirkle (something is going on) starts and keeps going. In both cases, after a while Studio closes down.

It does not matter which project I select.

I have tried repairing the program; it did not help. (Restarting the computer of course does not help either.)

What to do? Unistall and reinstall?

  • You tried repairing Studio, but did you try the old favourite?  Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0

So the path would become this:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0_old

If that doesn't help try renaming this file:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2019\Projects\projects.xml

In case the projects.xml is corrupt this will create a blank one as a fresh start.  You will lose all the projects in your list but you can put them back again by opening each project one at a time using Open Project and selecting the sdlproj.

If that doesn't help perhaps the problem is the sdlproj itself.  In this case take a copy of your target language SDLXLIFF files and then recreate your project from the original source files, or project package.  Then replace the target language sdlxliff files with the ones you copied from the original project so you are back to where you left off.
