Hi everyone! I'm just reading through the thread and am happy to see that I'm not the only one that's had this problem at least. I.e. that it's solvable.

However, I haven't merged or split segments but I'm still getting an error message saying: 

"Failed to save target content: The illustration <group name="docshapegroup6"> was moved between paragraphs."

There's only one image in the lines I've translated so far.

I even turned on "Show Whitespace Characters" and I don't see any paragraph breaks where the image should be. That is to say, in both the source and target segments, in the lines around where the image should be, there are only spaces (signified by a small dot that's centrally justified). So I'm not sure what the issue is.

I'd really appreciate a response as I need to export this translation rather soon. Thank you!

Have you merged any segments in your document?

Which version of Studio are you using? Is the file a Word document? Or it is an InDesign IDML one?

I don't recall merging any segments.

I'm using the most recent version of Trados Studio Freelance 2022 (v. 17.0.5.14757).

The file is a pdf document.

And I have been able to export a smaller chunk of it previously successfully.

So the problem is the source file. I assume you have imported the PDF directly in Studio. Pardon my French, but this topic is being discussed so often everywhere, that I am really fed up with that. To make PDF translation working properly—and only if you cannot get the proper source file—you must convert the PDF using a decent OCR solution BEFORE translating it in any tool. Before translating the formatting of the document should be corrected and there is literally NO software in the world, which would convert a PDF properly.

Here I see only one solution: take the Word file you can find in your source folder (or use File -> Avanced Save -> Save source as) and correct the formatting there.  Then retranslate the file using your TM. Your problem is a damaged Word file.

Thanks for clearing that up. The pdf was actually professionally scanned and OCR was working perfectly on it (still is). So it wasn't just dragged and dropped into the project. And, as I said, I was able to export a part of the translation successfully before. Until it came across this illustration from the error message, I'm assuming.

Assuming that it really is a damaged Word file (i.e. the Word file that was automatically generated then the pdf was imported), would the solution be removing the suspected problematic image?

Alternatively, I'll just convert it into a Word file and start translating a new and import the translation memory to speed things up.

Sorry for my first assumption. If the document has been converted properly, it should not create any problems.

Please try, if you are able to save the source file. File -> Advanced Save -> Save source as. If that works, something has gone wrong during the translation. If not, the source file is indeed damaged. In this case I have no solution. Should the file save as source, we could be able to find a workaround to your problem.

Thanks, Jerzy. I tried following your suggestion of saving the source and it didn't work, unfortunately. I ended up simply converting the PDF into a Word file and starting from scratch using the TM.

At least I know what not to do in the future.
