If you are working with the Sample Project, you are no longer required to manually select the target language because it has been already selected during the project creation phase.

You should simply open the Sample Project from the "Projects" view and then make sure to have "German (Germany)" selected when you see the files inside the project (see screenshot). German will be target language set when opening any of these files.

Unfortunately this isn't about the sample project. It's about sample files that come with a course (SDL TRADOS Studio 2019 Getting Started). I am unable to select German as the language as I do not have it as an option from the dropdown list when creating a TM.

If you didn't select German as one of your languages when you installed then you need to either reinstall or use a registry fix.

How to reset Freelance languages for studio. 

• Close Studio.
• Hold down the windows key and press R. (or right click the start/windows button and select Run).
• For Studio 2019 paste in this:
  reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\LDSRClient15 /f
• Press ok.
• Restart Studio.

Studio 2021 has done away with this 5 language restriction, but until then you can only work with 5 at a time if you're using the Freelance version of Studio.
