It looks like either the help hasn't been updated or you're looking at an old version.  A recent update in 2019 changed the way alignment works and there is no edit mode anymore as it's not needed. Note the suggestion from Stefano.

First, many thanks for the answers.

No edit mode, so I tried with select and rightclick, this works, until I reach segment 55. This segment is removed within the proofed dokument.

If I try to connect segments left56 with right55 there is no connect offered by rightclick, see screen undeneath.

If I try to select segments left55 + left56 + right55, then I have connect on rigthclick, but I get a connect from left55 to right55 (yes this is not accurate, but if this would be the only problematic segment, I can correct it afterwards manually).

How can I get around this?

The retrofit function has certain limits, and one limit is (if I remember correctly) that you can only align within paragraphs. If your editor/proofreader removed a paragraph, then retrofit won't work. If you click on one segment in the revised document, certain segments in the original document will be highlighted blue (the segment numbers). Those are within the same paragraph and can be aligned. You can't align across paragraphs.

The retrofit function is not designed for heavy edits.

Thanks, I recognized the the color change to blue for some numbers, with the meaning of it I can see the limits.

So I need more time to update the translations manually.

The retrofit function can be very useful for proofreading, but it is not made for heavy editing tasks.
