Seriously - I get one message when I do what you describe (your "Message 2"). Can it be that you have a derelict project called "Project 1" in your default project folder? Removing or renaming that might stem the flood...

I don't use the SDL project folder system, since I prefer to keep all files related to a project on one place, i.e. together with the source files, the PO, instructions, etc.

However, each time I start a new project, "Project 1" is offered as the name, so you may be right. I will check.

I did delete the files present in the SDL location under "My documents", but behavior remains the same.

Maybe try renaming your projects.xml file in your projects folder and then add the projects you need back in again one at a time.  Could be a rogue entry perhaps?

Also useful to note the version of 2019 you are working with?  Current versions are:

SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.6.2831
SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.6.56482

I had Studio SR2 - 15.2.5.2145 and Multiterm 15.03.55976, but updated when I saw your message.

Will try renaming next time I have a project to prepare, although I have recently cleaned up the project list and removed projects I don't "need", so I would be surprised if there is a rogue one.
