I think the translator has to return the package to the PM, who will then create a package for you to review the translation. You return that package to the PM.

I was afraid this might end up being the case. That's a lot of extra steps that neither our own CRM system nor our workflow are designed for, unfortunately.

Hi Thomas,

The return package that the translator has created only contains the sdlxliff files with the translations, it does not include any of the other resources that are sent out with the original translation package (e.g. Project Settings / TM / Term-base etc.) and therefore unless you have the original project already available to you within version of Trados Studio you cannot open and update the project using the Return Package that the translator has created.

However, thinking a bit outside of the box (and I think either of these options could work) you could try the following:

a). When the Project Manager creates his Project Package and sends to the Translator, they also send you a copy of this as well. This would then mean that when you receive the Return Package for review you can open the original Translation Project sent for translation inside of your version of Trados Studio. This would then include all the elements you need (Project Settings / TM / Term-base etc.) plus a copy of the pre-translated sdlxliff document(s) sent to the Translator. Once you have opened this original Project Package  you can then update it with the Return Package sent to you by the Translator complete your review and then create a Return Package to go back to the Project Manager.

b). This could be a simpler option, which again I think should work. When the translator has completed their translation they create a Project Package rather than a Return Package. This should then include all the resources (Project Settings / TM / Term-base) etc. plus the updated (translated) sdlxliff files. You can then open this Project Package complete your Review and then use the "Create Return Package" option to send the reviewed files back to the PM. (Please note that this option can only work if the translator has a full Professional version of Trados Studio and not the Freelance version as you cannot create Project Packages with the Freelance version only Return Packages.)

Solution A might work for us. Solution B probably won't because I would hazard a guess that most of our freelancers don't have access to the full studio version.

A cloud-based solution could work as well. I will discuss this with the rest of the team.
