I think the first thing to look at is where and how your resources are stored.

A possible cause for high RAM usage and very sluggish performance could be that part of your resources are online and that your AntiVirus is blocking the access.

Please ensure that both Studio and MultiTerm are added to your AntiVirus providers 'exception list'- otherwise this may be blocking correct access to the online resources.

Should the problem persists, remove the online TB from the project, close and reopen the project and proceed with just your local TB.

If everything appears to have normalised, add back into the project the online TB and check the performance.

Both Studio and Multiterm were already in the antivirus "Exception list" (with all the other *.exe files in the SDL and Multiterm folders).

As for the RAM memory, this is not the issue, the problem is CPU usage.

I have removed the online TB from the project and the problem persists (I am working with a high-speed, fiber optic connection).

On a deeper examination, the problem seems to mount gradually, as initially the program works fine, and after a few translations it starts to gradually "slow down". The first symptom is that grammatical mistakes stop to appear underlined, then the TM coincidences take some time to appear, until it finally crashes. In order to prevent this, I have to close and restart the program every few minutes.

Although I am far from being a computer expert, seems to be something related with the content: the file is full of chemical formulas, that are full of hyphens and commas, and maybe that is causing the program to fail (as it sometimes points a 99% coincidence for segments that are very different). Nevertheless, I wonder why it takes some minutes/new translations for the problem to appear. ¿Temporary files?

Oh, you're using the grammar checking as you type? This is the reason for very sluggish performance IMO. Try to switch this off and let the grammar be checked afterwards. Depending on the language, best results can be achieved with LanguateTool: appstore.sdl.com/.../

So you did not use any grammar check at all? Sorry, then I misunderstood something here. Usually the use of Word as grammar checker and doing this as you type slows Studio down to a very high extent.

No, after you suggested to disable spellchecker, I disabled it. I think that maybe the problem could be related to the fact that as Trados treates as a different word each number and word separated by hyphens, the fact that I am dealing with a file full of numerous chemical formulas, with very short terms separated by hyphens, may have something to do with this.

And when I use spell checker, I always use Hunspell, as it is much more faster than Word (it takes a little work to create dictionaries in other variants of Spanish, but is really worth it).

OK, this changes much, as from my knowledge only Word grammar checker does really slow down Studio.

Maybe it is worth to switch off all UpLift functions for such a job.

Where are your files stored? On a spinning HDD?

Edit: I have just checked your processor. If I do not miss something, it has been released 8 years ago, what would mean your PC is fully outdated. Studio is a very resource consuming software, when it comes to HDD speed. What you need to fluently work with Studio would be a i5/i7 processor not older than 6th generation... And you should store all data on a SSD disk.

As for my files, I store system files and working files on a SDD, and music, videos and backup files in a HDD. And yes, the CPU is an old one, but it still works really fine (only above 4 GHz, otherwise it is slow with big files). Nevertheless, I know I must buy a new one (i9) with Trados 2021, otherwise I will miss the new improvements.

In that case I have no big experience with processors, I only work on a desktop since more than 30 years. Laptop is used only on the road and thus not so often and intense.

You are right, Jerzy. The current CPU works right, but does not allow me to use all features of Trados. As for processors, I work on customized PCs, and when I buy a new one I intend (depending on the budget) to design it so as to use it for 10 years (that is the explanation for the i9). Otherwise, as you say, i7 would be perfectly fine.
