Method not found: Void NLog.Logger.Error(System.Exception, System.String)'.

Dear All,

I installed yesterday the latest update to SDL Trados Studio Freelance Plus 2019 – the SR2. Now, I can no longer open Trados, as the following error message shows up:

Error dialog box in Trados Studio with a red cross symbol, displaying 'Method not found: 'Void NLog.Logger.Error(System.Exception, System.String)' and an OK button.

...and then Trados crashes.

I have a lot of work on my hands and even having to come here to post this slows me down. I also do not appreciate being used by SDL as a live beta tester – I am a paying customer!

Please, help!

Best regards,

Pavel Tsvetkov

  • Hello ,

I believe this might be originating from an earlier plugin that's not been updated and may be causing the conflict with the updated version of Studio.

As always, it's recommended to post the full stack trace that should provide us with useful information.

Error message popup in Trados Studio with steps: 1) Click on the icon, 2) Save the XML file to your desktop, 3) Add file to the thread.

In the meantime, I would suggest removing the plugins from the following folders

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\Packages\

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\Unpacked\

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\Packages\

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\Unpacked\

    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\Packages\

    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\Unpacked\

Also make sure there is no evidence of it in here:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL Community\

    Then restart Studio.

If Studio now starts without issue, please install the latest AppNotifications plugin

    https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/appnotifications/1020/

This way you will always be notified of the updated plugins.

Of course, you can then reinstall the plugins.

Please let me know if this helps.

  • Hi Steven,

    Thank you for your message.

    1. Manually deleting the plugins worked! Thank you for a great suggestion!

    2. Some of these plugins provide important services that are otherwise missing in Studio, but plugins also cause a lot of issues.

    3. The system in place of having to download separate plugins to do things, and then invariably run into critical compatibility issues when you least expect it, seems to be inherently flawed. SDL must do better than this!

    Best regards,

I completely agree... Trados 2021 has a much improved mechanism for this as the appstore is very well integrated into the product.  You will always know if there is an update for you and updating is a single click.

If you installed the app notifications plugin it would help as this at least gives you an idea of when a new version is available.
