How can I filter empty target segment in Studio Editor?

I have a document that need to translate the updated contents.

I compared the before/after version with track changes in word and dragged compared document in Studio.

By "Community Advanced Display Filter" I searched all source segments with tracked changes.

By "copy source to target" the change accepted version can be copied into target segments and the deleted parts will be left as empty segments.

I need to filter out the empty target segments and extract the rest for translation.

How could I do that? Regular Expression search "^$" doesn't work.

  • Why don't you use the same filter you used to identify the source segments with track changes and then reverse it?  That should leave you with what you need.

Alternatively try this as the regex:

    ^$

That seems to work for me.

  • Hi ,

said he already tried ^$ as re regex and it didn't work.

However, it works for me with the Advanced filter (doesn't work with the Review display filter though).

First, I have deleted some Target segment contents:

Trados Studio screenshot showing deleted target segment contents with red exclamation mark errors on the right side.

Then I try filtering using ^$ in the Review tab display filter, which doesn't work:

Trados Studio Review tab display filter with $ regex applied showing no results and a message 'No translation units to display.'

With even the basic Advanced display filter, ^$ works fine:

Trados Studio Advanced display filter with $ regex applied successfully displaying filtered segments.

Then, with the Community advanced display filter it also works:

Trados Studio Community Advanced display filter with $ regex applied successfully displaying filtered segments.

Thus, if  has the 'Regular Expressions' box ticked in his Community Advanced display filter, the software is not behaving as it should, or...

Maybe there are 'invisibles' in the Target segments that appear to be empty. This happened to me recently with some invisibles in the Source that had flowed through from an InDesign document so I locked the segments as Untranslated to keep the invisibles out of the TM. This was flagged up as untranslated units and the source was represented in the error message by two boxes, as usually happens when a character that doesn't work in the available font has been used.

    All the best,

  • Hi All,

I tried "Advanced Display Filter 2.0" in Trados Studio 2021, "^S" now can be applied in REGX search.
