In addition, I cannot find the 'Upgrade Translation Memories' feature.

In the release notes you'll see that some features have been removed to slim down the size of the application.  They were removed because the telemetry showed us they are really not used a lot.  The upgrade capability (that I also liked!) was part of this.

However, you can put it back by downloading and installing this:

Just type "power" into the search in the appstore integration, download the app, and then click here:

You'll find the zip containing the installer in this folder alongside all the other non-sdlplugin apps that require manual installation.  So then close Studio, then unzip and run the installer:

You'll note it was quite a large download, and hopefully you also noticed how much better the installation process was for Studio 2021 without it.  Based on the usage stats I think it's a small price to pay for the benefit of the majority of users who don't use this feature at all.

Once complete you should have this feature back:

On the QuickUpgrade... I'm afraid this is lost altogether.  It apparently had more difficulties to integrate as a separate application so it's been lost completely.  So you don't see this anymore:

The workaround will be to do this as a separate exercise.

So sad, It worked perfectly for me, and I used it frequently!!

So, the only option left to open a ttx file is to create a new TM and import the ttx into it?

No... we were talking about TMX not TTX. You can open TTX if you install the power pack we have discussed.

Actually, over here the start up procedure of Studio 2021 takes a very long time and almost freezes with the window "Ansichten werden aktualisiert" ("Views are updated" or sortalike). I experience a strong slow down with this process.

Hi Paul  - I received a TTX file  - could not open it in 2021 - installed the power pack and it STILL is not recognized as a translatable file.... Any ideas?

Yes... you have probably not activated the filetype in your File -> Options.  Please see your other post.

I only stumble over this now as it is a new requirement from the company I work for as freelancer. I need to work with the translation memory in tmx files they deliver now. My current – the latest 2021 version 16.1.8.4044 does not allow me to choose this file format as translation memory. I searched community comments (stumbled across this one) and did download and install the SDL Trados Compatibility and Migration Power Pack (latest version)

You need this action when you want to make TMX files translatable.
If you want to use TMX files as a TM, the quickest option would be to create a dedicated TM for your client and import TMX files every time they send them to you. If they send you similar/slightly updated TMX files, choose "Overwrite..." or "Keep most recent..." option in the Import wizard.
