QA Checker 3.0 problems in Trados Studio 2021

This question/discussion supersedes the following threads:

My attempted solution of simply re-entering the RegEx rules in Studio 2021 didn't work. In the course of my testing, I discovered that somehow the order of the RegEx expressions/rules matters, which places this WAY beyond my ability to figure out.

In our translations, we want to ensure that there is no space between a comparison operator (<, >, etc) that begins a segment and the following number, for example:

>3,000,000 Correct

> 3,000,000 Incorrect

We therefore have a rule that checks this.

Trados Studio QA Checker rule settings showing a description for removing space between comparison operator and numerical expression.

While fiddling with the rules and trying to get them to work, I noticed that this works (at the top):

Trados Studio QA Checker rule settings with a red 'Works' label indicating the rule is functioning correctly.

Trados Studio translation segment with a green checkmark indicating the rule is working as expected, no space between '>' and '3,000,000'.

And this does not:

Trados Studio QA Checker rule settings with a red 'Broken' label indicating the rule is not functioning correctly.

Trados Studio translation segment with a green checkmark in error, indicating the rule is not detecting the space between '>' and '3,000,000'.

I have no idea why this is the case. I am including both exported subsets in a zip file. I hope this contributes to this problem being solved AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

  • Complicated one.  I think it's got something to do with this rule:

Trados Studio error message showing 'ERR: 3.4b: Add comma separators if included in German' with a warning symbol in the 'Regular expressions' section.

You can replicate this using only two rules:

Close-up of Trados Studio error messages 'ERR: 3.4b: Add comma separators if included in German' and 'ERR: 3.5b: Remove space between comparison symbol and numerical expression e.g. >100 mg'.

Switch the order and all is well, do it as shown above and it fails to report correctly.  So I think this "ERR: 3.4b: Add comma separators if included in German" is the culprit.

I also verified this works fine in 2019... so something seems to have changed but I don't know what.  I'll log this and see whether the support/dev team can confirm what the issue is here.
