Alignment with Excel Files does not correspond to the Row Numbers.

Hello.

I have 1 source file (English) and 1 target file (Japanese) to align.

Both contain exactly the same number of rows (3159) and columns (1).

What I am aiming for is to have an alignment result which has a simple 1:1 connection for every row.

However, once I put them in Trados to do the alignment, I get a quite messy result (eg. row 1 connected to row 1,2,3)

I know how to disconnect and connect the segments, but since the file is big, 1 gap creates a tremendous amount of workload to fix the whole alignment file.

Does anyone know how to make the alignment to correspond to the row numbers of Excel?

Thank you.

  • Why align them at all?  If you do that you need to address segmentation differences between the languages.  If they are as clear as that just do this:

    1. copy the JP into the EN Excel file so the rows are all aligned
    2. convert the Excel into a TM

You can convert the Excel a number of was:

    • open in Studio using the bilingual Excel filetype and then just update into a TM, OR
    • use the Glossary Converter from the AppStore which can convert the Excel directly into an SDLTM, OR
    • ... probably many other ways but the two above are the easiest.
