You should use the version of Studio, in which the file has previously been created.

According to what I learned in the school, 200-2003 is included in the period 1997-2003, so you have a file type for Word 2000-2003. It is only a different one than that used for the file creation. There is no Word 2000-2003 file type for S2021, you have to live with that. Adding an old file type for Word will make Studio instable and should not be done.

Thank you for answering. Do you have any recommendations as to what I should do to resolve the problem with Studio not being able to save the file? I don't have a previous version of Studio. 2021 is my first. I wasn't aware that there was a way to downgrade to an older version.

Just for clarification: The problem is not exactly in the time period but in the version of the file type. Word 97-2003 is v 2.0.0.0. I need "v 1.0.0.0", which is Word 2000-2003. I know the years overlap, but Studio has a problem with the version. It confused me too.

I have already suggested the solution: use the version of Studio, which has created the SDLXLIFF file. There is no other solution AFAIK.

That's unfortunate. I'm not willing to buy another license just to be able to handle one file type. Thank you, anyway, for your time and answers.

When you was able to create a file, why cannot you use the same Studio version? Or did you get the file from someone else? If so, this other person will be able to create the target. You are not.

I'd like to add some clarification to this thread.  There is no need for you to downgrade Studio unless you absolutely wish to be able to create the target file.  The problem you have is that the package has been created by someone using a much older version of Studio than you have.  So whilst you can translate the file and you can create a return package there is no way for you to save the target file.

When you send the translation back to your customer they will be able to create the target file.

I'd also note that you probably don't want to downgrade as the version of that filetype they are using is probably from Studio 2015 or earlier.
