Try running the "Performance and Tuning" features in the TM Maintenance View.  Could be that your indexes need to be regenerated now you have removed half of your TU and these can take a bit of space; also if you'd run the UpLift features you should probably do that again.  I've no idea what version of Studio you are using so don't know what you might have done to your TM initially.

Sorry for not having given more information. I'm currently working with Trados Studio 2017 SR1 10018
I will give 2 examples.

Test 1:
- not upgraded TM, 20.000 UEs, 55 MB
- deleting 17.000 UEs -> 3500 UEs remaining, still 55 MB
- re-indexing + recomputing fuzzy index statistics -> still 55 MB
- upgrading TM: still 55 MB (this is interesting, because it doesn't get bigger)

I've done the same test with another TM and got the same result.

Test 2:
- the same TM, but upgraded before: 20.000 UEs, 69 MB
- deleting 17.000 UEs - 3500 UEs remaining, still 69 MB
- re-indexing + recomputing fuzzy index statistics -> still 69 MB

Thanks for that... you "forced" me to look at this properly and I can concur with your findings.  I discussed with a developer who knows about this stuff and the problem is that we don't seem to run the vacuum command within Studio:

Please back up your TM before doing this!!  Then test thoroughly to make sure everything is still fine.
