Can you add a little more details please as to how you are exporting (final document/bilingual review?

I ran a little test and im able to see the comments from the source Word file and those then added in Studio and exported.

Are you perhaps working with a .doc file rather than .docX?

Perhaps also worth checking the file type settings 

If the problem persists, are you able to share the source with me (swhale@sdl.com)

It turns out I'd deleted the tags in the previous segments by mistake, so user error and nothing to do with Trados. Thanks again for such a speedy response.
