Error Service 'Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagement.IProjectManagementService' could not be started. Studio 2019/Windows 10 Professional/Bitdefender/System Mechanic

Error message in Trados Studio stating 'Service Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagement.IProjectManagementService could not be started' with details of the exception and stack trace.

This error occurred just after a Windows 10 Pro update. I also have Bitdefender and System Mechanic installed on my system, but I couldn't resolve the problem by adding the .exe file to any of the whitelists.

The saved error message indicates:

  • You do need to update as you're out of date anyway. You need:

    SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.7.2849
    SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.6.56482

I suggest you update and then try again.  That process may well fix your problem anyway.

    • Close SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2.
    • Download the ZIP file SDLTradosStudio2019_SR2_CU7_2849.zip from our FTP site (Username: sdlpatches, password: 5dlpatch35).
    • The ZIP file contains an .exe file. Extract this file to a temporary folder of your choice, such as C:\temp. This .exe file applies to all editions of SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2.
    • Double-click the .exe file. This will install the latest release and replace as well as update the files in the SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 installation folder as appropriate.

  • Thank you so much, Paul

I did as you suggested. Windows defender blocked both the Studio and MultiTerm files, but I went through the steps to verify them as safe and added them to the list of apps allowed to communicate through the Windows Defender Firewall. The program still doesn't load. This is the error message with details:

Error message window from Trados Studio showing 'Service Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagement.IProjectManagementService could not be started.' and 'Unexpected end of file while parsing Name has occurred. Line 55, position 21.'

And these are the saved error details:

  • Hi, I remembered a mention of projects.xml in the Knowledgebase answers to my problem:

    Solution 2: Sdl.ProjectApi.Implementation, System.xml

    1. Delete the projects.xml file from C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\Documents\Studio 201X\Projects so that you are able to start Studio.
    2. After starting Studio, go to File > Setup > Users and edit the user info in there. Make sure you type the information and not copy paste it.
    3. Close Studio and delete the projects.xml file before starting it again.

I did as instructed here and I was able to open. I hope that's enough to let me get back to work.

    Thanks for your help!!!
