Translating text embedded in technical drawings in PDF document

I am working on an urgent translation. It is a PDF file containing technical drawings with text fragments that label the different parts of the image. I uploaded the files onto SDL thinking that the program would be able to extract the text for translation but it only extracted text present in a table at the bottom of the document and not the rest of the text up in the drawing. Does anyone have a suggestion of a solution that would not involve purchasing additional software?

  • Yes, I am using the latest version... Trados Studio 2021. I did use OCR with the Iris plugin. I have recently realized that most of the text segments in the PDF files are embedded as Autocad SHX text. Consequently, the only text that went into SDL Trados when I exported the files was the text that was in the tables (not Autocad SHX text). I got in touch with a colleague who is more specialized in these sorts of matters and he said the only way to export to SDL would require the dxf files that were used to create the pdf files. He exported dxf from pdf and used AutoCAD to try to make it editable, but none of this worked. Do you agree with his opinion?
