When starting Studio 2014 I get the above message. The complete message reads as follows:

I'm fairly new to Trados and completely clueless. Their support is a joke, too, I look around for answers and all I get is a hefty offer to pay $200+ to log a support ticket. All input on this would be appreciated.

    Fortunately you managed to find this free service provided by SDL!  You could also have logged a support case for free using the solution finder in the SDL Knowledgebase as we provide free support for all licensing and installation issues, as well for a few other things too.

    On this particular issue the best approach may be to delete 3 XML files by going to the following path:

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\[11.0.0.0]
    Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\[11.0.0.0]

    and delete the following three XML files:

    - BaseSettings.xml
    - plugincache.xml
    - UserSettings.xml

    In case you cannot see the "AppData" folder, make sure that your folder view is set to "display hidden system folders." Here are step-by-step instructions:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Show-hidden-files

    If this does not help then please delete the following file: "projects.xml" located in

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]Application Data\SDL\SDL Trados Studio
    Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\SDL Trados Studio\Projects

    Please note that your project list will disappear and you will need to re-open your projects in SDL Trados Studio to have them back in the list. To do this please go to File > Open > Project and browse to the project you wish to open. It will then be added to the Projects list in SDL Trados Studio 2014.

    This may well do the trick.  But if it doesn't I'll log a support case for you using the solution finder and we can arrange for a support engineer to help figure out what the cause of this issue is.

  • Hi Paul,

    I am now the victim of exactly the same problem. And unfortunately, deleting all four files you mention does not help. As for logging a support case for free using the solution finder, I am unable to find out how that is done. So I'd like to take you up on your last sentence.

    Regards,
    Mats
  • Hi Mats,

    Go to the Knowledgebase;

    http://kb.sdl.com

    Then go to the tab called Solution Finder ( http://kb.sdl.com/?cid=23&tab=sf ) and now go here;

    Download & Installation Problems
    - I use SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm 2009, 2011 or 2014
    -- The installation went fine but now I get an error message etc
    --- The problem occurs in (pick the appropriate tool/s)
    ---- None of the articles resolved my problem (if they didn’t!)

    Follow the route for your problem and if there is no answer that helps by the time you get to the end you'll be presented with a form to contact support. Complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    Also use the Chrome browser to log the case if you have it; you'll get more success in completing the form.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the reply. In order to be able to submit the request, I had so select an "operational category", so I chose "Licensing" which to me does not fit but seems better than "Installation". Does this matter, do you think?

    Regards,
    Mats
  • Well if you put licensing the licensing team will get it and wonder what to do... because it's not a licensing issue ;-) Better to just follow the route I gave you, the right team will get it, and they know what to do.
